The Battle of Crowhurst

A band of Vikings have raided deep into Wessex. The local Earl has mustered his Housecarls and the local fyrd to face them outside of the small village of Crowhurst.

The Vikings advance, with their bowmen moving forward to take on the Saxon archers.

The armies align.

The bowmen shoot at each other.

The champions of each army fight, with the Viking emerging victorious.

Viking warriors charge into the Saxon bowmen.

The Saxon Housecarls form a boars-snout in an attempt to break the Viking shieldwall.

The armies clash along the line.

The Saxon left flank takes many casualties.

The boars-snout breaks down and crashes against the Viking shieldwall, with the Earl and the Jarl facing off against each other.

The Saxon left flank does well against their opposition...

...however their shieldwall is broken on the right flank.

Locked in combat.

The remainder of the Saxon right flank front unit run back to second unit, and the Vikings smash into them.

A few Vikings break through to pillage the village.

Seeing the resistance is too great, the Viking Jarl calls for his men to withdraw. It is a stalemate.
